Episode #8: Harvard undergrad vs. Harvard Graduate School w/ Beth Young

On this episode, I’m interviewing Beth Young– a current Economics major and Psychology minor at Harvard!  We discuss in depth her experience as an undergrad as well as my experience in Harvard graduate school.

It was so great reminiscing about my days at HGSE, and hearing Beth’s perspective on Harvard undergrad was so refreshing.  Harvard admissions, like any Ivy League, is competitive– but there are common traits that all top schools are looking for.  With acceptance rates lowering each and every year, it’s important to truly understand what qualities they’re looking for in an applicant!

TUNE IN BELOW:

WHAT YOU’LL LEARN ABOUT IN THIS EPISODE:

  • How Beth got accepted into Harvard
  • Beth’s advice for students applying to Harvard
  • The difference between Harvard College and Harvard Graduate School
  • What you can do to make yourself stand out as an applicant
  • Beth’s typical day at Harvard

NOTABLE QUOTES:

I think there’s a lot of pressure on the essay… but you can write about anything… it can be something simple like baking cookies with your grandmother every Sunday.
I erased everything from my brain and my thoughts, and said, ‘Julie, WHY do you want to go here? What is your big WHY factor?’ Where did this begin for you?’
It’s okay to feel like you’re lost or you’re confused or you’re not sure what you want to do. Most people feel that way.
If anything, it’s good to question what you’re doing-- it’s good to question what your next steps are.
